Pocahontas County and the City of Rolfe welcome Dutch dairy farmers

1. Pocahontas Area School system is very good.
   
2. Excellent market for milk. The Midwest has to import milk from other regions of the country to fill its plants.
   
3. Our local veterinarian is experienced in veterinary medicine for dairy herds because he owns his own dairy.
   
4. Community acceptance of dairy operations. Dutchland Dairy in Rolfe has shown our community the positive economic impact dairy operations can provide.
   
5. Grain farmers in the area have expressed interest in raising forage for potential dairies.
   
6. South Dakota and Nebraska are super dairy hay markets because of their dryer climate. The further east one builds, the higher potential costs of dairy hay.
   
7. We have a proven heifer grower able to raise heifers to calve at 21 or 22 months of age, that go on to make super cows.
   
8. George Sonned, a top notch nutritionist from Form A Feed, is associated with our local farmers cooperative.
   
9. Rolfe is looking to the future. Recently the community raised nearly $500,000 to build a new community center and library.
   
10. Rolfe, although a small community, has a lot to offer. We have a brand new community center and library, a community swimming pool, public golf course and country club, Three Rivers Bike Trail trailhead, community parks, Greater Rolfe Days celebration, and service organizations and sororities.
